The dog park is currently closed for road and parking lot improvements. For your safety, please do not enter the project area: the roadway from Kahiliholo Road through the parking lot.
Where is the North Shore Barkyard?
Located in the Wai Koa Plantation (5445 Kahiliholo Road in Kilauea), your dogs have a comfortable place to run off-leash, exercise, and socialize at the North Shore Barkyard. The park is ADA-accessible, and features double-gated entries into separate play spaces for large and small dogs.
The park is open year-round, from dawn to dusk and operated solely with donations. Please obey all posted rules – and keep dogs on leash until inside the first gate.
How it All Started
Opened in 2013 as the North Shore Dog Park, the Barkyard was built by our community. The park is privately funded; designed, built, and operated by North Shore Give, with no city, county, or government funding.
A local anonymous donor initiated the dog park project and has been a major supporter since then. It is located on land generously donated for use by Bill and Joan Porter, materials were donated by Shawn and Mark Hurt, and the North Shore Lions Club built two shade structures to provide relief from the hot sun and frequent rain showers.
Donations from the community help to keep the park operational.
Your Support
Dog park maintenance throughout the year costs about $10,000 (mowing, tree trimming, hedging, property taxes, fence repairs, and more). Our goal is to raise funds for an entire year and sustain a reserve fund for future repairs of the fences, benches, and shade structures.
The North Shore Barkyard is sustained entirely by community contributions. You can help to keep the park a beautiful, safe, and enjoyable place for dogs and their humans. Your donation is tax-deductible.

Dog Park Rules
The Barkyard is open from dawn to dusk year-round.
Please keep the park clean, friendly and safe for everyone. Use the park with respect, aloha, and at your own risk. If you enter the fenced area, you assume the risk that you or any person may be harmed by a dog.
- Clean up after your dog.
- No dogs without people. No people without dogs.
- Watch your dogs at all times. Discourage barking and digging. If your dog digs a hole, fill it in.
- No spike, prong or pinch collars. However, your dog must wear a collar or harness in the park at all times.
- No aggressive dogs. Do not let your dog pester or mount other dogs. Watch for signs of aggression.
- Un-neutered male dogs can only be in the dog park by themselves unless they are known by other park users.
- Puppies under 4 months, dogs in heat, and dogs with parasites, open wounds, or in ill health are not allowed. Closely monitor un-neutered males.
- If your dog gets into a fight, exchange contact information and leave the park. You are responsible for any injury caused by your dog.
- Bring children at your own risk. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Dogs must be on a leash at all times outside the fenced area.
- Smoking, alcohol, glass containers, any food or dog treats are not allowed in the park.
